This is still not a solution, it's a workaround but I thought I could help someone else search. we used a product called ExtremeZ-IP years ago to partly mitigate the issue. The latter open sounds harder but once the dialog is open it's easier to manage if you have a lot of users. We mitigated this by giving them a Windows file server instead which worked. ![]() Select the problem folder(s) and click close selected. Description The remote host is running ExtremeZ-IP, a file- and print-server for Windows. That will bring up a dialogue showing all the open files on the computer, I like to order by open file so I can see the file paths in order. The remote web server is affected by a directory traversal vulnerability. Then click Action from the menu at the top, then Manage Open Files. To close the connection you can unmount and remount the share drive, or you can kill finder, or on windows server you can Right Click on Computer, Select Manage, Expand Roles, Expand File Services, click on Share and Storage Managment. Everyone stays happy and in the loop with ExtremeZ-IP, the only Windows-based server solution that supports all releases of the Mac operating system from OS 9 to OS X 10.5. ![]() It's this directory that can't be moved or renamed. File sharing in Windows is conducted using the Server Message Block (SMB) protocol, which lacks many of the capabilities included in the Mac’s Apple Filing Protocol (AFP). No more whining - ever - with the most compatible and scalable AFP Server on the market today Watch the whining stop in a snap when you install ExtremeZ-IP File Server 5.1, the industry's most trusted solution for seamless file sharing between Mac desktops and Windows servers. ![]() The Mac opens a file that's hosted on the server and closes it, but the directory above the directory the file is contained in stays open. It's not a permissions issues, I like a lot people assumed it was a permissions issue. Feels a bit cheeky answering my own question but I've spent enough time searching through boards that don't go anywhere to know how frustrating that can be.
